Hyderabad: A 33-year-old man who had been in police custody was brought dead to a hospital on Thursday in Medak district. Three policemen have been suspended. The man, Laxman, is said to have hanged himself with his shirt. He was brought dead to the Gandhi hospital at around 4 am. There were marks on Laxman's neck and no other external injuries apparent on his body.

Laxman, along with his brother, had been accused of murdering a woman in December, burning her body and dumping it. The police suspect he had an affair with the woman and had also borrowed money from her. When she started asking for the money back, he killed her, the police believe. After the murder, Laxman had been working in Mumbai as a labourer. He was reportedly caught three days ago and brought to Medak. Since the death took place when the man was in lock-up, the police have ordered an inquiry, as required by the National Human Rights Commission.
