Hyderabad: Making some quick progress in the case where a young girl’s charred body was found near IAS officers’ quarters in Punjagutta on Friday, the police have identified her as Wasireddy Pujitha, 21, CA Inter student and native of Nandigama in Krishna District. Four teams were formed to speed up the investigation.
Based on the cell phone data, the police are said to have identified the woman. With her watch stopped ticking at around 11 pm, it is believed that she might have died between 10.30 pm and 11.30 pm. Even though a suicide note was found with her friend, Akshay Kumar, who claimed to have accompanied her to city, the discovery of some liquor bottles near the site cast doubts over possibility of self immolation.
According to official sources, Pujitha had left her town on Wednesday along with her friend Akshay to Hyderabad. The suicide note was found in a T-shirt she had gifted to Akshay upon her arrival in Hyderabad on Thursday. He was taken into custody, and during interrogation he claimed to have dropped her at the Secunderabad Railway Station the same day as she had expressed her wish to return to her native place. In the suicide note, she expressed frustration saying that she failed to secure a job like her elder sister.
According to reports from Vijayawada Bureau, Wasireddy Srinivas, father of Pujitha, had lodged a complaint at Nandigama police station stating that his daughter had gone missing, but the police did not register the case. After tracing her mobile calls, they informed him that she was in Hyderabad.
In the meantime, police have sent the suicide note to the forensic department to confirm her hand writing. The police also questioned few boys of the hostel, which is close to the spot. The clues team expressed doubts about her committing suicide, as she would have screamed while getting burnt. During the course, at least plants and wall would have received some stains on it.
On the other hand, the post-mortem’s primary report weakens the rape theory, as it found her clothes intact while being burnt. It also says that the woman could have been burnt alive, as traces of smoke were found in her lungs. According to one of her relatives, she had undergone coaching for CA in S R Nagar in the city, prior to joining the course in Vijayawada. During that time she was residing at her aunt’s house. However, the police officials involved in the investigation avoided disclosing further details of the case.
