Kathmandu: Members of the International Relations and Labour Committee of the Legislature-Parliament have said that a large number of vehicles with Indian registered number plates have entered Nepal without permission and asked the government to control this.

During a meeting of the committee held on Friday, the lawmakers said the government should take a special initiative for getting transport services in an easy and accessible manner according to international practice, Nepal being a landlocked country.

The committee also directed the government to ensure speedy and effective implementation of the agreement on vehicles operation under the commerce and supplies treaty between Nepal and India.

Lawmakers Rajan Bhattarai, Chudamani Jangali, Pemba Lama, Ramchandra Saha Teli and others urged the government to make the process of vehicles' flow systematic by considering the country's norms.

Furthermore, the meeting also directed the ministries concerned to take the lead for the implementation of the decision for easier transport services with other member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) region.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi and Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa responded to the queries of the lawmakers.
