Police in Hyderabad have arrested a 26-year-old man for trespassing into the enclosure of a jaguar and teasing the animal after bribing a zoo employee.

Areeb Taha Mehdi was arrested on Wednesday after a zoo official lodged a complaint with Bahadurpura police station.

Mehdi visited the Nehru Zoological Park on Saturday and went inside the night house of jaguar, which is prohibited for the visitors.

He managed to enter after paying a bribe to animal keeper, Govind, who has also been arrested now.

The youth teased the animal by pulling its legs while taking pictures and video of the same.

Mehdi later posted the photos on his Facebook account and invited friends who wanted to "have such mind blowing experience".

Police verified Mehdi's Facebook account and traced him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South Zone, V Satyanarayana said that during the interrogation, Mehdi claimed he is an animal enthusiast and wanted to observe animals closely and touch them.

"This person illegally trespassed into that caged jaguar area and teased that jaguar by doing nonsensical activities, by catching hold of his tail, ear and forelegs. Subsequently after this, he posted on his Facebook account saying that it was mind-blowing experience, and anybody who wanted the same experience can contact him," said Satyanarayana.

Police have now booked a case of trespass against Mehdi under Indian Penal Code and another case of teasing the animal at zoo under Wildlife Protection Act.
