Hyderabad: In a major crackdown, the Miyapur police claimed to have busted a gang of five dacoits and recovered stolen money worth Rs 4.5 lakh from their possession on Thursday. The gang robbed Rs 5 lakh from a Mumbai-based automobile dealer, Manoj Mehta, in Miyapur area on June 27.



The Miyapur police arrested Gorla Anjaneyulu, 27, of Banjara Hills, Konda Shiva Shanker, 29, of Ramnagar, Kancham Gangadhar, 31, of Banjara Hills, Pamba Dharma, 30, of Banjara Hills, and Nakkala Sridhar Goud, 20, of Shadnagar from their hideout in Banjara Hills area on Thursday morning.


Giving details at a press conference on Thursday, DCP (Madhapur) Kartikeya said, “Based on a complaint, special teams were formed to nab the gang who robbed the Mumbai-based automobile dealer on June 27 near Kalvary Temple in Miyapur area.” The DCP said the gang waylaid the dealer’s car and threatened him at knife point and fled with the money.



“Anjaneyulu works as a driver at India Decor in Banjara Hills whose owner is Anand. Manoj Mehta used to come regularly to the city on business purpose and stay at Anand’s place. Anand used to lend his car to Manoj for collecting money from other dealers in the city and Anjaneyulu would accompany him as a driver.



Anjaneyulu who constantly used to keep an eye of Manoj’s movements in the city, hatched a plan with his associates to rob him. On June 25, Manoj came to Hyderabad and on June 27 around 7.30 pm after collecting the money from the dealers, he left for Madeenaguda to board a bus to Mumbai.



When he reached near Kalvary Temple, Shiva Shanker, Gangadhar, and Sridhar stopped his car, attacked him and fled with the money,” the DCP said adding that the trio acted on Anjaneyulu’s direction who was driving the car on the day of incident.The police recovered Rs 4.5 lakh, six cell phones, two knives, a car and a motorcycle used by the culprits in the commission of offence. The accused were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.
