Hyderabad: Three Rajahmundry-bound persons who were returning from Mumbai were killed on the spot while one was injured in a road accident near Manchirevula village on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Rajendranagar in the wee hours of Thursday.

The Rajendranagar police said four members of a family from Rajahmundry in East Godavari district were on their way back from Mumbai to Rajahmundry when a truck (AP28 TB 9861) on its way to Hyderabad collided with the ambulance (MH 43 S 331) in which they were travelling on the ORR road, killing three on the spot while one person received injuries.

The injured was immediately rushed to Owaisi Hospital in Kanchanbagh. The victims were identified as Ayyappa Vishwanath, 32, his wife A Deepika, 26, both of Narsapur, East Godavari and his aunt Bharati Kumari, 49, of Mamidikuduru, East Godavari while the injured person identified as Prabhakar, 56, husband of Bharati.

According to eye-witnesses, soon after the accident, information was sent to police who swung into action and shifted the injured person to hospital. “The family was returning to Rajahmundry after Vishwanath got discharged from a hospital in Mumbai. His wife, aunt and uncle escorted him from the hospital,” the cops said. A case was registered. Efforts are on to nab the truck driver, who fled the spot.
