Six arrested for kidnapping toddler girl

Six persons, including a juvenile boy, have been arrested by the Pahadishareef police on Thursday on charges of abduction and trafficking of a two-and-a-half year girl. According to the police, they received a complaint from a young mother on March 27 stating that her two-and-a-half year old daughter Nighar was missing from her home, while she was doing some work inside.

Hyderabad: Six persons, including a juvenile boy, have been arrested by the Pahadishareef police on Thursday on charges of abduction and trafficking of a two-and-a-half year girl. According to the police, they received a complaint from a young mother on March 27 stating that her two-and-a-half year old daughter Nighar was missing from her home, while she was doing some work inside.
Verification of CCTV cameras installed in the locality revealed that a woman and another boy were seen walking away with the girl. The victim identified the woman as Shahana Begum (26), a labour from the same locality.After investigation, the prime accused Shahana and five others, a housewife named Salma Khatoon (26) and Mohammed Shaik Shaibad (34), both residents of Bellary, Jahangeer Bee (28), labour from Talabkatta, Zeenath Begum (64), a retired government employee from Bellary from Karnataka, and a juvenile boy were arrested from various places.
On questioning, it was found that Zeenath was living alone and she wanted someone to take care of her and wanted to adopt a girl, but illegally. She sought the help of a couple, her distant relatives, Salma and Shaidab and offered Rs 1 lakh to get a baby, the police said.
The couple contacted the prime accused Shahana and informed her about the same and offered her some money. Apparently, Shahana and her brother (minor boy) hatched a plan to kidnap the girl from their neighbourhood and abducted Nighar from her house at Yakutpura. They handed over the girl to Salma and collected Rs 1 lakh. Shahana was identified by the complainant and arrests were made subsequently, said Pahadishareef police adding that the rescued girl had been handed over to her mother.
