A 30-year-old woman, who is alleged to have killed her 23-day-old son, as she wanted a baby girl was arrested by police on Thursday and sent to judicial remand. The woman went into depression and slit her son’s throat, said Malkajgiri DCP E Ramachandra Reddy.

During a press conference here on Thursday, the DCP said that D Poornima (30), wife of a grocery shop owner, had two male children, among which one died due to ill-health and the other son is four-years-old. “About 23 days ago, she delivered a baby boy again. Depressed by her son’s birth, she slit his throat with a blade,” the DCP said.
To cover-up the crime, the woman made up a story that she was attacked by two bike-borne chain snatchers and that his throat was slit during that attempt. She even went to a hospital posing that the baby suffered injuries during the attack.
Later, she lodged a complaint with the police and tried to mislead the investigation, the DCP said adding, through investigation and interrogation of the woman revealed the mystery. Basing on her confession, the blood-stained clothes and the gold chain were recovered from her house and the woman was sent to judicial remand, DCP Ramachandra Reddy added.
