Narsapur (Medak): Friday night’s gang rape alleged by a woman in her late 20s may have shaken the residents of Narsapur due to the nature and timing of the crime, but preliminary investigation has revealed a different tale altogether.

While the victim alleges that five men abducted and gang-raped her, the lone arrested says it was consensual sex and he was alone

A Dalit woman (28) filed a complaint with the Narsapur police that she was gang raped by five men on Friday night. According to the victim, a resident of Jaggampet village of Kowdipally mandal, she had come to Narsapur on Friday evening to collect her remuneration for stitching clothes at a charitable trust in Narsapur. After collecting Rs 10,000, she went to the bus stand to catch a bus to her village, but had missed it.

As she was walking near the Narsapur X Roads between 8.30 pm and 9 pm, a red car approached her, five men abducted her and took her to a secluded location just a few kilometres away from the X roads. They allegedly gang raped her and rendered her unconscious.

She woke up and managed to reach the main road, when an auto driver picked her up and took her to the nearest government hospital in Narsapur. As she was bleeding, she was taken to Sangareddy Government Hospital, where she was examined and sent to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad.

Medak SP B Sumathi visited the victim and assured her justice. An FIR was filed and police have been investigating. However, the version of the police is quite the opposite. As per Venkat Raja Goud, Narsapur sub-inspector, they had already arrested one of the accused and upon interrogation, he claimed that it was consensual intercourse and that he himself had taken her to the hospital when she complained of stomach ache and started bleeding.

He also stated that the couple were together the whole day since 11 am on Friday and had travelled to Patancheru, Sangareddy and reached Narsapur, where the victim had herself desired to get a room at a lodge. The accused maintained that there was no one else other than him with the woman.

According to the police, the woman has also made conflicting and inconsistent statements while giving her complaint. However, according to Narsapur Station House Officer Raju, two suspects have been apprehended and investigation is on. He said that facts of the case would only come out by Sunday noon and it would be too early to come to a conclusion at the moment.

The victim is a married woman with a five-year-old daughter. Due to domestic issues, she and her husband used to quarrel quite often and she was left to fend for herself by her husband two years ago. Ratnaiah, her husband, is a resident of Ajjamarri village, which is situated close to the victim’s village. Her husband could not be reached by the police and the media.

However, at a main junction like Narsapur Chowrasta, no CCTV camera was installed, which could have otherwise provided valuable leads to solve the case immediately.

As of now, apart from the information which is with the Narsapur police, the foremost evidence to suggest whether gang rape had taken place or not, could only be produced after receiving forensic report from Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad, which could take weeks, if not months.
