Hyderabad: Five people including two seamen and an engineering student were arrested on Wednesday while they were looking for a prospective buyer to sell a fake $ 1 million bill that was in their possession.

The arrested have been identified as P Anil Babu of Guntur district, Chandra Bhushan Birua of Jharkhand – both seamen in merchant navy, R Rajendra Prasad of Guntur district, P Venkatesh of Ranga Reddy district and P Nagaraju, engineering student from Kadapa district.

Rachakonda police said that Anil and Chandra Bhushan stole the fake US $ 1 Million bill from the cabin of the ship captain one year ago and since then they had been trying to find a person who can buy it in exchange for Indian currency notes.

Anil, through his brother, came in touch with Nagaraju, who in turn informed about the one million dollar bill to Rajendra Prasad.

The latter then informed his friend Venkatesh and all the five gathered at Dilsukhnagar on Tuesday to discuss the plan, police said.

In the meantime, Special Operations Team (SOT) of LB Nagar got a tip off and nabbed the accused. Police seized the fake US currency note, four cell phones and other incriminating material.

Police said Anil and Chandra Bhushan tried to cheat others despite knowing that the US dollar bill in their possession was a fake one.
