Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police arrested a youngster from West Bengal for cheating people online through phishing calls. The accused fraudulently transferred Rs 47,500 to various e-wallets, by claiming to be a bank manager.

According to Cyber Cell of Rachakonda Commissionerate, the accused Binod Mandal, 20, resident of Jharkhand made a random call to Karthik Raj, a car driver on December 1.

While introducing himself as Manager of SBH Debit Cards, he forced Karthik Raj to reveal information in view of demonetisation and threatened to block his debit card if he fails to reveal information.

He sought details of Aadhar card, ATM card, its date of expiry and CVV (Card Verification Value) number. Believing the fraudster, the victim provided the details during the brief phone call.
