Hyderabad: L B Nagar police on Tuesday busted an alleged gang of women pickpockets. The arrested were tailors. They targeted women by diverting their attention in buses and at public places and stole their belongings. The police claimed to have recovered Rs 8 lakh worth of gold jewellery from them.

According to police, the women had committed theft of gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones after diverting the attention of the women.

They used to open the zip of the bags being carried by women passengers in the crowded buses during rush hours. The arrested were Garedi Jyothi alias Erukala Kavitha alias Boya Jyothi, 45, Ratna Divya, 30, and Boya Venkamma, 60.

All the three women hailed from Kurnool district in AP. They stayed in rented houses at Almasguda in Saroornagar. A total of 11 cases were registered against the gang in LB Nagar (10) and Vanasthalipuram (1) police station limits.

“Due to frequent reporting of offences of pickpocketing we deployed a police team which apprehended three women at L B Nagar crossroads on Monday. Upon interrogation, the arrested had confessed to have committed thefts. We also recovered gold ornaments weighing about 26 tolas from them,” said DCP, L B Nagar, M Venkateshwar Rao.
