Kakinada: Mudragada Padmanabham had been the most prominent name in politics in East Godavari district in the past. But, for the past few years, he was out of politics. However, a few of his close associates hinted that Mudragada may not remain silent till 2014 polls and would definitely join some party and contest.
He had joined YS Jagan during his Odarpu Yatra, gave him full support and made it known that Jagan would be the future Chief Minister. However, he has since quarrelled with Jagan.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders tried to get Mudragada Padmanabham into their fold. Several stories are making the rounds here that Union Minister MM Pallam Raju is considering Mudragada's views more than anybody else's. He is said to have put aside even Minister Thota Narasimham's views to give importance to Mudragada.
But now, Thota and Mudragada are at loggerheads as the former is afraid that Mudragada might compete with him in the coming polls.A It is learnt that Mr Pallam Raju, who represents the Parliamentary constituency, is keen on giving some position to Mudragada. As the Kapus are eyeing the TDP and some others are supporting Jagan, Mudragada being a Kapu leader might be useful to the Congress, he thinks.
The fact that PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana meeting Mudragada at his house and discussing district politics had given rise to the speculation that Mudragada would soon join the Congress. Though Botcha said that it was just a meeting between relatives, the leader might be considered as a candidate in the next elections, it is learnt.
Mudragada contested from Pithapuram in the last election and lost to the PRP candidate. Present MLA Vanga Geeta Viswanatham is with the Congress. If Mudragada joins Congress and will contest from Pithapuram, then the position of Vanga Geeta becomes unstable. Mudragada's native is Jaggampet of Kirlampudi. If he contests from Jaggampet, then Thota Narsimham has to look for a new constituency. He might contest from Prathipadu which he had represented earlier.
