POLYCET today, over 2.54 lakh to appear. Entrance test for admission into first polytechnic courses (POLYCET) will be held on Wednesday at 649 exam centres across the state.

Hyderabad: Entrance test for admission into first polytechnic courses (POLYCET) will be held on Wednesday at 649 exam centres across the state. A total of 2, 54, 060 students have registered for the exam and out of them 71, 936 were girls. 12 centres have been exclusively arranged for girl students.

As many as 68 coordinating centres have been set up where special observers were deputed. There will be local observers as well to help students and invigilators on all aspects with regard to exam, according to D Venka tesw arlu, Convener, POLYCET.

The exam will be held from 11 am to 1 pm and the candidates will be allowed inside the exam hall one hour before the commencement of the test. No candidate will be allowed after the commencement of the exam, officials made it clear. For the first time, 2B pencils will be supplied to candidates for what the convener said as “for better marking of answers”.

The pattern of examination will be multiple choices. Out of a total of 120 questions, maths will be for 60 whereas physics and chemistry for 30 questions each. Each question carries one mark. Question papers will be printed in English and Telugu as well.

Qualifying marks for awarding rank is 36 i.e 30 per cent. For SC/ST candidates rank will be awarded on a mere appearance the POLYCET. The Key will be released on May 28 and the results are likely to be declared on June 4. Counselling will be commenced from 2nd week of June 2014 and notification will be released in the last week of May.

The AICTE as on the date has accorded permission for 18 Govt. Polytechnics for strength of 2400 and 3 standalone Private Polytechnics with 3120 strength.
