Hyderabad: Engineering graduates who wish to purse Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course have a reason to rejoice. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has relaxed the norms and allowed Engineering graduates to pursue B.Ed courses. Now, Engineering graduates can take up a course in Mathematics and Physical Science Methodology.

  • Two-year B.Ed course from next academic year
  • EdCET notification on March 12
  • Exam on June 6; results on June 25

Though the council relaxed the norms, it came with a rider. As per the NCTE criteria, Engineering graduates with Mathematics background in Intermediate and Engineering course are only eligible for B.Ed course in Mathematics. Students who want to study Physical Science Methodology should have Physical Science and Chemistry in their Intermediate education and Engineering.

Besides, all the B.Ed courses, which were one-year so far, will be two-year courses from the next academic year. This means that, a candidate can be eligible for teacher post after five years of study as the eligibility for B.Ed entrance is three-year degree course. “A committee, constituted with faculty of Osmania University and Kakatiya University, to re-frame the syllabus, has completed the task.

From the next academic year, new syllabus will be introduced for the two-year course,” an official of the State Council of Higher Education said. Meanwhile, EdCET committee met at Osmania University here on Wednesday and released the schedule for Telangana State EdCET for admissions into B.Ed courses.

Notification will be released on March 12 and online registrations will commence from March 16. Candidates can register online at www.tsedcet.org by paying Rs 300 towards application fee payable at TS Online/AP Online/Mee-Seva/e-Seva centres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Last date for registration without late fee is May 7. Candidates can also apply with late fee of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 till May 14 and 21, respectively.
