Perhaps, first of its kind published in any school of India – the Suncity World School had recently launched a book, named ‘What’s cooking’.

With 38 veggie recipes, including Juices, drinks and mocktails, Soups and Salads, appetizers, main course and deserts, this 148-page coffee table book is the brainchild of Principal Rupa Chakravarty. The idea behind this book is to motivate and appreciate the children and encourage them for their cooking skills. The age group of the children whose dishes have been published is 11-16 years.

“I feel privileged to be a part of first coffee table book to be ever released in school in India with recipes of dishes with students, parents, grandparents, teachers and experts of Suncity School have cooked and captured forever in the first of its kind book for eternity. Taking the emotions from the often asked question so what’s cooking mom? We decided to address the book by the same. ” Rupa Chakravarty, Principal Suncity World School.

The Principal further informed that altogether 35 participants, including 22 Children, five teachers from Suncity World School and eight parents and grandparents of the children. “It took almost two years, to get this compiled in the form of a book, under the keen guidance of Jiggs Kalra, Food Columnist, Gastronome and Food Consultant and Ms Salma Husain, Food Advisor- ITC Group of Hotels. Even for the students and their guardians, this book is not less than something charismatic. Sara Wasim, mother of Karim Wasim of Std V and one of the recipe-contributors, says, “It is an excellent initiative taken by the school and I feel that such things should be encouraged. I had never heard of something like this from a school before Suncity School decided to come up with a cookery book. Cooking is something that interests everybody and I feel we should promote the same beyond classrooms like this so that it inspires others also.”

Corroborating similar views, Nirmal Rathi, the grandmother of Dhairya and Dhwani Bhandari of this school, remarked: “I have been very passionate about cooking and time and again I try making new dishes and serving the same to my family members. When I came to know about this initiative of Suncity School, I decided to participate in this. It was really an amazing experience – working together with children, teachers, parents and grandparents for this book.”

Yuvraj Garg, a student, appeared enthused while saying, “Truly amazing! I always had interest in cooking and used to look forward to our home science class. I was super excited to be a part of this book. I am really thankful to my school because they have given me this platform and have appreciated my work.”

School fraternity apart, this book has also caught the attention of many food columnists. Jiggs Kalra, Food Columnist, Gastronome and Food Consultant, says, “It is wonderful to have a cook book for the students, of the students and by the students on this issue. I congratulate Suncity School for having first of its coffee table cook book and that is why it is unique and will be a trend setter for the future.”
