Hyderabad: Jawaharnagar dumping yard which is managed by Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd is said to be posing threat to the health of people in the nearby areas.
According to Uppal MLA NVSS Prabhakar, the solid waste management company has failed to cap the dumping yard. As a result, the bad odour and stink emanating from the yard has become a huge health hazard for people in the residential colonies for some time and now it is suspected that methane gas is being emanated from there. Many people had complained of nausea, headache and respiratory diseases, he said.
According to the MLA, requests made by residents to shift the dumping yard have fallen on deaf ears. Previously, harmful odours were restricted to the colonies surrounding it such as Jawahar Nagar, Dammaiguda, Shantinagar, Sivajinagar and Ambedkar Nagar that fall within a radius of 2 km but it is spreading to areas like Saket, Arul Colony, Arun Nagar.
Bank Colony, Dr AS Rao Nagar Road, DLR Enclave, Madhavapuri, Bhaskar Rao Nagar, Lake View Colony, Manik Sai, Kalyan Gardens and parts of Sainikpuri and Defence Colony. He said some investigations made by independent bodies also suspected that methane gas was coming out of the dump yard.
He said following this, he had submitted a memorandum to the State Pollution Control Board to look into the matter and take necessary action and also initiate action against the waste management company.
Prabhakar expressed fears that even animal wastage from Chengicharla slaughter house was being thrown in the same dumping yard.
