The district is known for its political motivation as well as for its diversity as in a strange amalgamation, it comprises of delta, upland, sub-plan and agency areas besides being known for an overwhelming caste equations.

As far as the political equations are concerned, the district was divided between the Congress and the TDP in the past. Since its formation, YSR Congress Party has emerged as a powerful alternative, thanks to the support it has garnered from the Dalit and Christian vote bank, which is decisive in the district.

GV Harsha Kumar, twice elected as Amalapuram MP and the Vice-President of the JSP is leading the way for the party in the district. Enjoying a good image in Konaseema, in which his Parliamentary constituency comes under and he is confident of scoring a hat-trick of wins.

Speaking to The Hans India, Harsha Kumar pointed out that his proximity with the people of Konaseema and his fight for the basic needs of the people would help him.

He said that he has set an enviable track-record in performance having rendered several welfare measures for the betterment of the people by making concrete use of the MP Lads.

On his fight with oil companies on “Our gas for ours”, he lamented that that he could not fulfill his dream for the people of Konaseema as the Union Governments did not oblige.

He explained that the primary gas allocations are met for fertilizer companies in which Seemandhra has the least share while companies based in states like Gujarat stood benefited. He reaffirmed that his fight for self-sustainability of gas for the region would continue unabated.

On his party’s prospectus of winning in the coming elections, he sounded confident, which was because of party president, N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s clean image in administration and his commitment for United Andhra Pradesh. He it made it clear that Kiran Reddy’s pioneering decisions like bringing acts on SC/ST Sub-Plan and ‘Bangaruthalli’ scheme would benefit the party enormously.
