Colourful parade marks Republic Day fete. The 65th Republic Day on Sunday was celebrated across Andhra Pradesh with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.
The 65th Republic Day on Sunday was celebrated across Andhra Pradesh with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. Governor ESL Narasimhan led the celebrations by unfurling the national flag at the main ceremony at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds. He took the salute and reviewed a colourful parade by contingents of the Indian Air Force, defence establishments, police, Home Guards, National Cadet Corps, Red Cross and others.

Tableaux by government departments highlighted the development and welfare schemes in the state. There were a total of 16 tableaux which participated in the parade. These tableaux belonging to various government departments lit up the grounds. The first place in the parade went to the Rajiv Vidya Mission tableaux, the second place went to the housing department and the third place was bagged by the police department.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials attended the function.
Addressing the huge gathering, the Governor said the state was making rapid strides in all sectors. Narasimhan also spoke about various programmes being implemented for the welfare of socially and economically backward sections.
He also presented first prize to the Army’s Hyderabad based Electronic, Mechanical Engineering (EME) Centre and second prize to Artillery Centre in the senior contingent category. In the junior category, National Cadet Corps (NCC) Boys and Girls got first and second prizes respectively.
Narasimhan also gave away special appreciation trophies on his behalf to the contingents of Swayamkrushi Institute and the National Institute of Mentally Handicapped. More than 20 contingents from Air Force, Army, AP Special Police (APSP) and CRPF took part in the march past.
