Google’s birthday treat to Nelson Mandela

In commemoration of the life and legacy of South African anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela, Google treated visitors to the search engine home page with a visual journey of his life with accompanying six of his remarkable quotes.

At the very first glance on Google's home page, visitors could immediately notice the close-up caricature of Mandela decorated with flowers. The doodle took visitors to a background picture of tiny houses with an animated man moving forward. On this portion, the following quote could be read, "No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion." A few tiny huts were shown in the background. On the next slide, three houses could be seen on top of the mountain overlooking the mountainous area below. Mandela's famous quote written stated, "People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

Next up, was the quote that stated that merely fact of living is not the one that counts in life but the importance of the life that people lead is on the difference that they have done to the lives of other people.

Another slide showed a caricature of Nelson Mandela behind bars standing towards the light coming from the tiny opening while reading a book. The accompanying quote stated that education is the most potent armament that people can utilise to transform the world.

A caricature of Mandela standing before a large crowd could also been seen with the words that states that being free does not only mean, removing the chains but living a respectful life that enhances the freedom of other people.

Then another close-up snapshot stated, "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."

According to the Nelson Mandela Organisation, the famous politician and philanthropist was the first democratically elected President in South Africa. During his reign he had been a staunch advocate of equality and learning. He remained steadfast in his devotion to democracy despite all the racism.

His exemplary life had been an inspiration to all the oppressed and disadvantaged communities and to all people who are against apartheid and dispossession.
