Andhra Pradesh’s Republic Day parade would be held for the first time in the Armed Reserve Grounds in the city. The State government previously organised the Police Commemoration Day in the city, while it hosted the Independence Day celebrations at Kurnool.

Governor ESL Narasimhan is likely to hoist the tricolour in the city first and then fly to Hyderabad to lead the celebrations of Telangana State. The Governor was earlier apprehensive on his participation at the Republic Day parade in both the States. He is now understood to have sorted his itinerary to avoid any inconvenience. The Governor may arrive in the city on January 25 and stay at the State Guest House. Sources said that he would hoist the national flag at 8 am the next day and leave the city at 10 am by a helicopter to Hyderabad.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his cabinet colleagues and other officials are expected to halt in the city on January 25 for the first Republic Day celebrations in the residual state. They are likely to join the Governor’s ‘At Home’ event which would be held in the evening in Hyderabad as part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, officials are sprucing up the local parade grounds for the mega event. City police celebrates its Independence Day every year on these grounds where a beautiful parade is organised by the local police, NCC and NSS wings. Schools and colleges also participate with colourful cultural events. This time, the ground is all set be equipped for colourful celebrations.
