Barely a few days after Audi released the official images of their next-generation flagship SUV Q7, the new car has been caught testing on Indian soil. Spotted by an Autocar India reader, it appears this mule was out for test rounds in or around Mumbai.

Audi’s signature Quattro technology pumping at the core of its products, will be at the heart of this one as well. Unveiled in 2005, the luxury SUV got a mid-life facelift in 2009. Well, back then it did gain weight, but the 2015 second generation of the car has lost some extra flab. And by some, we mean a massive 325 kilograms.

The second generation Q7 gets a new single frame front radiator grille, which somewhat resembles the new Q3’s in terms of its design. The chrome bordering also adds to the sophisticated look it flaunts. The wheel arches and shoulder line have been redrawn to make it look less bulky than the outgoing version. Aerodynamics have been given top priority. The under body cladding not just protects the under surface but also streamlines the air movement. Even the front grille changes its shape when cooling is not required to reduce the drag coefficient. Finishing the big muscular looks are the huge 18 inch wheels standard in the new Q7.

Here is a list of expected engines!
• A 3.0-litre Euro 6 compliant V6 diesel engine producing 268bhp
• A 3.0-litre (Ultra) V6 diesel engine producing 215bhp
• A 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 328bhp
• A 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor good squeezing out 249bhp

Based on the parent firm’s MLB platform, the dimensions of the SUV also register some alterations. The overall length is now 5,050 mm (370 mm shorter), 1,790 mm in width and 1,740 mm in terms of overall height. Even the wheelbase gets reduced to 2,990 mm, a drop of 10 mm. Yet, the designers at Audi have somehow magically managed to make the interiors roomier, as claimed.

Its spotting in India gives us a very good hint that it should be launched here after its global unveil. Expect it to make way sometime towards the middle of 2015.
