Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is slated to arrive Oct. 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game will feature two playable protagonists: Jacob and Evie Frye, twins with very different personalities. Ubisoft described Jacob as a "hot-headed, brash and rebellious leader of an underground gang."

His sister Evie is a "relentless Assassin," who prefers to play in the shadows as a "master of stealth and control." Users will be able to flip between the two characters freely; however, there will be some restrictions during the story missions for the sake of the narrative.

The ongoing battle between Assassins and Templars will once again take center stage, unfolding in London at the height of the Industrial Revolution. The Templars are in control, hiding behind an oppressive British Empire. The Assassins are viewed as criminals.

Tasked with taking London back, the twins must inspire the poor and disenfranchised to fight back, and simultaneously gain standing in the Templar-controlled criminal underworld. Fortunately, they won't have to kickstart a revolution all on their own. A number of historical figures will appear in the game, including author Charles Dickens and scientist Charles Darwin.

Ubisoft opted to nix multiplayer for the game. Instead, the production team focused on returning the game to its roots and telling a cohesive story. "The reason we are doing this is to really focus on the roots of the franchise. That's why all nine studios are focused on delivering this single-player experience," creative director Marc-Alexis Cote told GameSpot.

The game is available for pre-order now. Doing so via GameStop will net you a replica of the one-shilling necklace Jacob wears in the game. The Gold Edition, which includes a Season Pass for future DLC, the Darwin and Dickens Conspiracy mission and a Baker Street outfit, will cost $89.99.

The Collector's Edition ($119.99) comes with everything from the Gold Edition, plus the official soundtrack, a Jacob figurine, a poster of London, and an art book. The standard edition retails for $59.99. There are no plans to release the Assassin's Creed: Syndicate for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
