The five-day Swachh Telangana-Swachh Hyderabad programme that started on May 16 concluded on Wednesday. The city was divided into 400 segments and officials from different government departments met residents and representatives of Resident Welfare Associations.


Over a period of five days, Rs 600 crore worth proposals were received from different segments. Most of the proposals received were related to road repairs, construction of community halls, libraries and gymnasiums. During the five days, 32,250 tonnes of garbage was removed. The GHMC usually lifts around 3,600 metric tons of garbage every day but during the campaign nearly 8,000 metric tons of garbage removed each day.

Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya participating in the Swachh Hyderabad programme at Nampally Criminal Courts premises. He later monitored the works at Uppar Basthi,  Namalagundu along with Excise Minister Padma Rao.

The Governor of Telangana, MPs, MLAs, officers of All India Service and various heads of departments took part in the programme. Senior officials and staff from the departments like HMWS&SB, GHMC, Electricity, Police, Revenue and other wings of the government participated. Apart from this close to 2 lakh citizens were directly involved in the programme.


In addition to the existing fleet of vehicles, 510 tippers, 60 JCBs were deployed for lifting garbage and debris. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board, ILA, Railway authorities, celebrities from the film world, sports and other fields too took part in the programme.


SCB Chief Executive Officer Sujatha Gupta, Malkajgiri MP Ch Malla Reddy and Secunderabad Cantonment MLA G Sayanna participated in Swachh Hyderabad programme at Bowenpally on Wednesday. 16 garbage rickshaws were donated to SCB by Malla Reddy from his MPLAD funds.


Talking about the campaign Sujatha Gupta said that the campaign would be successful only if the public voluntarily pitch in for the programme. She promised to protect graveyards in the SCB limits.


“If everyone cooperates and pays the property tax, water charges and other cess, the cantonment can earn a revenue of Rs 100 crore per year which would be utilised for more development works such as providing drinking water to all, improving the roads and drainage system,” she added. SCB vice president Sada Keshava Reddy said that the Telangana government has released Rs 4 crore to SCB for development works as part of Swacch Hyderabad.

Cyberabad Commissioner of Police C V Anand took part in the programme at University of Hyderabad along with acting VC - Prof. E Haribabu and students. They were joined by the sanitation staff in cleaning the entrance, shopping complex and the hostels on the campus. Anand called upon the participants to ensure that they keep their buildings and surroundings clean. Prof. Haribabu said that it is the duty of every employee to keep their institution neat and clean.
