Water problems continue to trouble Nizampet residents. At present, more than twenty-five colonies in and around the area do not have piped water. The Manjira Jalasadhana committee – an association formed by the residential colonies – held a meeting this Sunday to prepare a memorandum to be submitted to the Chief Minister.

About 1, 50,000 people are affected due to the lack of water. In addition, indiscriminate drilling of borewells has added to the issue say residents. Vinayak Nagar, Tirumal Nagar, Balaji Nagar, Gayatri Garden, Venkateshwara Enclave, Kakatiya Assoiciation and several other colonies do not have a pipeline.

Committee convener, Nageshwar Rao said, “A main pipeline between Bachupally and Hydernagar has been approved but the water board wants the residents to share Rs. 60 crore.” Arjun, a resident of Vinayak Nagar said, “Even if each colony contributes a crore of rupees it would amount to just Rs 25 crore. Also, the residents would have pay more for sub-lines.

The government promised that water would be supplied to all and we want to be included.” In 2006, small pipeline was laid near the Maytas-Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area, which benefitted only eighty colonies.
