Hyderabad: Stating that crime rate in Hyderabad has come down 14 per cent in 2015, city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy thanks public for their cooperation in adopting technological initiatives by police.

The number of cases registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other laws by city police this year was 18,375 against 21,285 in 2014.

However, number of cases of harassment of women increased by 200 and substantially arrests were also made by the SHE Teams, he said during the annual press conference held here on Monday.
The commissioner added that 35 per cent reduction in percentage of property loss was also recorded. He said as many as 92 robberies were registered this year against 54 in 2014, adding that about 30 cases of chain snatching were registered under robbery depending on the severity of the offence.
“Launch of SHE Teams has created a sense of security among women. As many as 2,244 cases have been registered in 2015 against 2,241 last year,” he said. He further added that the crime, and law and order in city were under control due to technological initiatives taken up by the police and the public acceptance to adopt them.
“The community CCTV project initiative is well accepted by the public. Downfall in crime could be attributed to this measure along with the Preventive Detention Act against habitual offenders,” he said.
He informed that 16 cases were registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and 37 persons, including eight Nigerians, were arrested by the city police.
“Hyderabad city police is ready to face the forthcoming challenges in cyber offences. A highly tech-equipped Cyber Crime Laboratory will be built in Hyderabad in 2016,” the commissioner added.
