Hyderabad: The series of incidents taking place in Old City of Hyderabad portrays the increasing rivalry between Congress and MIM parties as the activists and leaders of both the parties filed cases against each other after the poll-day havoc.

Separate cases have been registered by the Mirchowk and Chandrayangutta police against Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi along with MIM activists under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation), after the Congress leaders lodged complaints subsequently after an attack on them by MIM activists on the poll-day in Hyderabad.

The Mirchowk police on Thursday registered cases against TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy and MLC Shabbir Ali for allegedly assaulting MIM activists during Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections held on Tuesday in Hyderabad.

Following a complaint from two persons, Syed Kashaf alias Syed Abdul Qadri and Shaik Abed, the police have booked cases against the Congress leaders. On Thursday, the Mirchowk police have arrested four persons including Kashaf and Abed along with Masiuddin and Misbah Pehalwan for attacking Uttam Kumar Reddy and Shabbir Ali. The four accused were produced in the Court on Thursday and were granted bail.

The counter complaint lodged by Kashaf and Abed read that they were assaulted by the Congress leaders near Mirchowk police station on the day of elections. However, another case was also registered against Shabbir Ali and Uttam Kumar Reddy in Mirchowk police station under City Police Act for violating the prohibitory orders.

Earlier in the day, the Chandrayangutta police registered a case against MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi under SC/ ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following a complaint by Mahender of BJP, who had contested for the corporator seat from Jangampet.

“Based on the complaint lodged by BJP candidate Mahender, case has been booked against MLA Akbaruddin under SC/ST Atrocities Act. Investigation is on in the case and we have video recordings of the happenings on the poll day at Jangampet polling booth,” said Chandrayangutta inspector N Rama Rao.
