Farmers petition Lokayukta against land acquisition
Farmers of Karukonda, Pothireddypally and Vattem villages affected by the Palamur-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project knocked on the doors of Lokayukta seeking protection from the coercion by the district administration.

Hyderabad: Farmers of Karukonda, Pothireddypally and Vattem villages affected by the Palamur-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project knocked on the doors of Lokayukta seeking protection from the coercion by the district administration.
They charged Mahabubnagar District Collector with creating a scare among the farmers in order to force them to part with their lands for the project. The farmers from these three villages and nearby tribal hamlets - Anakhanpally, Venkayapally, Karukonda Thanda and Ramreddy Thanda - met Lokayukta B Subhashan Reddy and poured out their grievances.
They said the administration was not invoking 2013 Land Acquisition Act, but instead using GO MS 123 to take their lands. The farmers had no role in determination of consideration amount of sale. When the market rate of land per acre in their villages was in the range between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh, the government was merely offering them Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh an acre.
But the government was threatening the farmers that they would be entitled to get three times the registration value of Rs 60,000 an acre if the new 2013 Act was invoked. This was a patent lie, said the farmers.
Since the government was buying lands for distribution among Dalits at a cost of Rs 3.4 lakh per acre, they contended that as per 2013 Act, three times of that value plus 100 per cent Solatium would mean they would get at least Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh per an acre.
The farmers sought protection from Lokayukta against the coercive actions of the district administration. The Lokayukta issued notice to District Collector T K Sreedevi to conduct a thorough probe into this issue and submit a report by March 22.
