Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has decided to convert all hostels under SC, ST and BC Welfare Departments into residential schools in a phased manner. A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during the budget review meeting with the officials of the Education Department at the camp office on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister asked officials to prepare a road map for convert hostels into residential schools. Stating that the education for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes would help in building a strong society in future, KCR told officials to make every effort to provide books, clothes, meals and every other need of the students studying in welfare schools.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Finance Minister Etala Rajender, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Special Chief Secretary Ranjeev R Acharya and other officials. The Chief Minister expressed his anguish at the poor results even though the government had been spending Rs 20,000 crore, He directed officials to ensure better results.

KCR ordered the officials of Education Department to design a system wherein there was scope for poor students to pursue technical education. He asked officials to send budget proposals in that regard. “There are 14 sub sections in the Education Department and not many sections have heads. It is better to club these sections which have similar functionality,” he told officials.

He asked officials to customise rules according to the current needs of the state. He asked the officials to take steps for effective running of these
institutions. The Chief Minister directed officials to review education programmes that were sponsored by the Central government and asked the officials to be prudent in spending Central government grants. He asked officials to observe the best practices in the private institutions and replicate them in government institutions.
