Technology is definitely transcending the Indian fashion industry in a big way and giving this trend a new high, the runway of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer-Resort 2016 is going to witness the Indian debut of 'ElektroCouture and Friends' showcasing bespoke innovative electronic wearable technology. The five-day fashion extravaganza will start here on Wednesday and the brand will showcase the collection on the opening day.

Based in the heart of Europe's fashion tech hub, Berlin, ElektroCouture is a collaborative house for bespoke technologies along with six international designers like Lina Wassong, Melissa Coleman, Valérie Lamontagne, Igor Knezevic, Kristin Neidlinger and Chritian Bruns from various countries like Britain, Canada and US, who join hands for the first time to present a collective showcase of fashion and technology with 'ElektroCouture and Friends'.

Integrating technologies into design, accessories, couture and also pret fashion, these designers have stepped into the future to find new ways of digitalising environment and human body. Some of their work comprises inventive battery systems to the latest in light technology, digital knitting and weaving, traditional hand processes to achieve radical shapes to 3D printing, sound reactive LEDs, motion and light sensors and mood technology.

These labels use light technology the way other designers use colour or cut, with the vision of making light wearable, multifunctional and easy to wear while still being revolutionary by way of self-expression and style. It was not until 2014 that Lisa Lang, ElektroCouture's founder, gave wearable tech a thought. Making tech fashion's new black, Lang started her prét-a-porter fashion house in Berlin ElektroCouture in 2014.

On her association with LFW, she shared: "We're very excited and grateful to partner with the Lakme Fashion Week and show the future of fashion in a real-life context. This is an amazing opportunity for designers and journalists in India to see what technology can do for us and how it can revolutionise the way we work and design in fashion." Saket Dhankar, vice president and head fashion, IMG Reliance is equally excited about the collaboration.

"Fashion worldwide has entered a new age of tech design; the future of fashion is here. 'ElektroCouture and Friends' show is a powerful story of progressive and new age fashion with multiple designers and varied sensibilities, but with the common love for technology. This season, we turn the spotlight on the biggest global fashion trends and showcase them on the Indian ramp," said Dhankar.
