The true wealth of a person is in the amount of good he does to the society. To enhance livelihood of people who are less fortunate, Dr Raghu Ram Pillarisetti, Oncoplastic breast surgeon adopted a village Ibrahimpur in Siddipet Mandal, Medak District. Earlier this week, he went to the village along with the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao to get a feel of the current status there.

The village has 265 families and a population of upto 1,000 people. Speaking to The Hans India, Dr Ram shares, “My parents, Dr Chalapathi Rao and Dr Ushalakshmi and my wife Dr Vyjayanti were the primary reason why decided to adopt a village. About six months ago Harish Rao had brought up the issue to me and asked me to participate in development activities.”

“After talking to the villagers we identified many issues that should be improved immediately,” adds Dr Rao, who is the President of The Association of Breast Surgeons of India and Director Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation. Elaborating on the same, he says, “The dining hall for students needs immediate attention; eating in open air can lead to sunstroke. We will be establishing a library with internet facility for students who are preparing for competitive exams.

A Health Centre manned by an Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) led hospital needs attention, which will provide basic healthcare in the village and regular camps to detect cancer.” “There is no crematorium in the village and people have to travel for 20-30 km when anyone dies. We have decided to provide a modern crematorium that will benefit Ibrahimpur and surrounding villages,” he adds. In addition, he will also be taking up the responsibility to find employment to skilled unemployed in the village.

“The villagers had shown good response. They thoroughly explained their problems to us. We have regular correspondence with the Sarpanch to know the village’s status. We will go for regular checking to watch the development,” he concludes.
