The Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) celebrated the ‘World Nature Conservation Day’ at its premises in the city on Thursday.

Celebrated on July 28 each year, the ‘Day’ recognises that a healthy environment is the foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, we all must participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources.

As part of the celebrations at NZP, a drawing and essay writing competition were conducted in which about 60 students participated from schools around the city.

Shivani Dogra, Curator of the zoo congratulated the participating students and said, “It is necessary to understand what ‘Sustainability’ truly means and also it is important to inculcate environment-friendly habits to lead a green lifestyle.”

In addition, she laid down simple practices towards the cause that included tips on wise use of resources like paper and fuel, efficient use of water and energy at home, how to avoid use of plastic bags while shopping, on being a responsible tourist by practicing eco-tourism and to plant trees in one’s locality.
