American Oncology Institute (AOI) organised an educational conversation with the students of BVRIT Hyderabad College of Engineering for Women, Nizampet as part of ‘Cancer Awareness Among Youth’ initiative on Friday.

Medical Director Dr Babaiah along with Medical Oncologist, Dr Suguna Chirla and Radiation Oncologist, Dr Sujana Priya Vuba discussed about the important aspects of cancer awareness, prevention, detection and treatment processes.

Addressing the students, Dr Babaiah said, “We are far behind in terms of registering and diagnosing cancer cases in India. This is due to lack of awareness and education amongst common people regarding the disease and other psychological aspects for which patients are reluctant to report an issue. We have to take the initiative to break this and educate everyone about the basics of the disease and remove misconceptions and fear about it.”

Talking about breast cancers he said, “The month of October is dedicated to extend awareness regarding the disease, and we want to convey that breast cancer is curable, if detected early. At AOI, with the precision in cancer care we create a seamless amalgamation of expertise, advanced technologies and evident-based treatment procedures for early detection, accuracy and highly focused treatments for best results.”

Participating students clarified their doubts and thoughts on the disease. The programme touched upon education, survivorship, advocacies and case studies. The students were given instructions on self examination of breast, screening options and encouraged for adaptation of healthy eating and active living concepts.
