Adilabad: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ravi Varma said that stringent action would be taken against gamblers and those playing matka and selling gutka.

Speaking to the media in the town on Friday, he said that the police would take steps to prevent the smuggling of country liquor from the borders of the district.

The DIG said that the movements of the Maoists have been kept under surveillance and if necessary, combing operations would be done to check their menace.

He inspected the One-Town and Two-Town police stations in the district headquarters. He said that burglaries were on the rise in the district but the police department was taking steps to curb the menace.

Additional Superintendent of Police Panasa Reddy and others were present.
