Karimnagar: The government must take initiation for constructing new buildings for libraries situated in towns and villages, said retired Additional Joint Collector Sriram Reddy (AJC) here on Monday.

He paid tributes to the portrait of the Father of Library Sciences, S R Ranganathan on the occasion of 49th week-long Library celebrations at the Central Library of Chigurumamidi in the district.

The retired AJC Sriram Reddy said that at present several library buildings in towns and villages were in worse conditions.

They must be either shifted to other buildings or new buildings should be constructed in place of the existing ones. There must be some open place for small children to play, which would help the parents to come with their children to libraries.

Every Library must possess number of books of different areas and different sections along with all kinds of daily newspapers and magazines, which would attract many book lovers towards libraries.

Youth must be habituated of reading of books because a good book not only serves as a good friend but also gives much knowledge.

Libraries must be modernised by introducing computers, so that students living in villages can use them and acquire computer knowledge, Sriram Reddy said.

Telangana Library Association president Sudhakar Reddy and Officer of the Central Library Prabhavathi Devi were present along with others.
