During a chit-chat with The Hans India on Tuesday the SP said that he would be available to people all the time to solve their problems. Excerpts of the interview:

The Hans India: What precautions are you taking to extend police service to the people?
Vishnu Warrier: Efforts are being made to solve the problems of people by making the police respond to each and every problem.

Complaints would be received from people every Monday and in addition, ‘Praja Divas’ would be observed every day to allow people to lodge their complaints. There is stupendous response to Praja Divas from people.

THI: Are there any efforts to control smuggling of ghutka, gudumba and matka in the district?
Superintendent of Police: Nirmal is the border district of Maharashtra and some unscrupulous elements are smuggling gutkha from that state.

A number of people are playing Matka gambling and losing their hard-earned money. Severe action would be taken against the smugglers and gambling dens. Bootlegging would be controlled by all means.

THI: What is the impact of extremism on the district?
Superintendent of Police: There is hardly any extremist activity in the district.

THI: What security measures are being taken in the sensitive areas in the district?
The SP: It is true that there are some sensitive areas in the district. Security measures would be taken up to provide protection to the people in the sensitive areas. Closed circuit cameras would be installed to check anti-social activities.

THI: What is the impact of Maoists on the district?
The SP: There is Maoists influence on Kadem and Khanapur mandals in the district. Efforts are being made to dissuade the youth from joining the Maoists. A member from Mangi Dalam has already surrendered before the police and others would follow suit soon. The surrendered Maoists would be brought into the mainstream by suitable rehabilitation programme. Pressure would be brought on them through their family members.

THI: Will the police undertake social service activities for the people?
Superintendent of Police: The police are organising medical camps in the remote areas to serve people. A mega medical camp is planned in Rajura village to provide medical service to poor people. Blankets were distributed to the poor in rural areas.

THI: Is there any staff shortage due to the division of the district?
The SP: There is absolutely no staff shortage to extend services to the people. However, a new batch of police personnel would join the force soon.

THI: What action would be taken to do justice to the complainants in the police station?
Superintendent of Police: Justice would be done to the complainants and if the police did not respond to the complaints, action would be taken against such police officials. There would be supervision on every complaint and every complaint would be taken to its logical conclusion.
