Indian American psychiatrist of Hyderabadi origin Dr Khutbuddin has been appointed as the President of charity organisation American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI).

As the new president, Dr Khutbuddin will work “towards correlating India and the United States for mutual development and growth in the field of education throughout the Americas.”

“We want an increasingly more number of people to know that they are bound to a social responsibility once they have accomplished or achieved something. The crest of their knowledge and experiences must be used to enlighten and help others accomplish,” said Dr Khutbuddin.

“We are working towards building a progressive society. There is enormous Indian talent residing in the USA. AFMI aims to channel this talent for the development and progress of Indian community residing in both countries,” he added.

“For instance, there are several Hyderabadi doctors leading their profession in United States. The medical fraternity in the city could exchange knowledge, experience and best practises with their NRI counterparts and vice-versa through exchange programmes,” said Dr Khutbuddin.

“The same can be done in the field of education, housing, health and rehabilitation,” he said. Reportedly, AFMI is also working to set up vocational and technical schools around India in collaboration with recognised universities and colleges.

Not only will this help in enabling more employment opportunities for the youth but also serve as enlightenment centres where online mentoring and tutoring will be provided to participants in life disciplines.

It is pertinent to mention that AFMI celebrated its silver jubilee last month. It has also been reportedly hosting major public events in honour of Indian leaders, such as former prime ministers, union cabinet ministers, chief ministers, academicians, cine artists, scientists, social activists, media personalities, religious leaders, and many others who have attended their public events in USA or in India in the last 25 years.

According to AFMI, “the US Senate recognized AFMI’s humanitarian and educational activities on its senate floor proceedings and debate on October 3, 2000 that has now become part of the congressional record vol. 146, number 121.”
