Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau, Dr PJ Sudhakar asserted the importance of media’s role in the protection of child rights.

The DG was speaking during a seminar organised by Association for Promoting Social Action in the city on Wednesday.

Dr Sudhakar said that media should handle such issues carefully and should not reveal the names of the groups and victims/survivors.

“Now-a-days values are going down and violence is increasing. Media reports should be informative and should educate the people.

Development of journalism is the need of the hour in the present world,” he said.

Director of APSA, Srinivas Reddy echoed similar sentiments and informed that the main objective of the seminar is to highlight child rights. Further, he said that media should act as the voice of children in protecting their rights.

“We want to make Hyderabad a child-friendly city with the help of media, as it has a great role in the society. Media is one of the stakeholders in protecting the child rights,” he said.

District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) member Imtyaz Rahim said, “We are running ‘Operation Smile’ through which we rescued 205 children from child labour.”

Member of National Forum for RTE CH Murali Mohan was also present at the event.
