Hanamkonda: The BJP is raising chilli issue for political mileage, Mahabubabad MP A Sitaram Naik said. Addressing a press conference along with TRS district president T Ravinder Rao here on Tuesday, he criticised the BJP State president K Laxman for provoking farmers just for the sake of political mileage.
Naik said that the Central government, which failed to understand the ground reality with regard to the chilli price issue, has announced Rs 5,000 per quintal as support price. He said that the BJP leaders including Laxman were hell-bent on defaming the TRS government.
He also found fault with the Centre for agreeing to purchase only 33,000 Metric Tonnes of chilli when the production in the State is close to 1 lakh Metric Tonnes. On the other hand, the Centre has allowed Andhra Pradesh to purchase 88,000 Metric Tonnes, he said, pointing out the disparity.
Naik also questioned the rationale behind BJP State leaders’ demand to provide Rs 10,000 per quintal even after their government at the Centre had announced Rs 5,000 per quintal.
Ravinder Rao demanded that the Centre to purchase the entire quantity of chilli production in the State through the Food Corporation of India, Nafed etc.
Rao said that TRS government is the only government in the country that has been according top priority to farming sector. Unable to digest the growing popularity of the TRS government, the BJP leaders are raising a hue and cry over chilli issue.
Senior leaders Satyavathi Rathod, Srija Naik, G Rajaiah, Nayeemuddin and Damodar were among others present.
