Timely measures checked spread of viral fevers
The incidence of viral fevers in the agency areas is on the wane due to the precautionary measures initiated by the state government, said Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy.

​Bhadrachalam: The incidence of viral fevers in the agency areas is on the wane due to the precautionary measures initiated by the state government, said Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy.
Reviewing the functioning of Health department at the Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) office here on Monday, the Minister said measures like visiting of medical and health staff at the field level and awareness programmes have yielded positive results.
“Field staff identified high risk areas and sensitised people on viral fevers. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply staff took measures to prevent spread of mosquito larvae, Laxma Reddy said, adding that arrangements were fully made to provide immediate treatment to the patients.
Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed his ire at 300 malaria cases getting registered in various mandals during the current year. He sought to know why medical officers at mandal level failed to take remedial measures.
He advised medical officers to get information from Anganwadi and ASHA workers and render treatment to patients on time. The loss of lives due to viral fevers has been greatly reduced on account of the concerted measures initiated by the government, he added.
To save the people from the private hospitals, the Area hospitals at Bhadrachalam, Manuguru and Khammam have been upgraded.
Bhadradri-Kothagudem District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu said special programmes were undertaken in May this year to sensitise people on viral fevers. Indoor Residual Spray was undertaken in 441 of 719 villages to check malaria.
In rest of the villages, work on spraying has been going on. In all, villages under 24 PHCs have been identified as high risk for malaria and remedial measures were implemented.
To provide treatment to the malaria-affected prior to reaching the hospital, medical kits have been supplied to the ASHA workers.
Blood tests have been conducted in respect of 1.12 lakh in the district and 347 have been tested positive for malaria. The affected are being treated.
Later, the Ministers inaugurated the 200-bed hospital at Bhadrachalam upgraded at a cost of Rs 19 crore. They said that 20 ICUs and 40 dialysis centers would be set up in the state soon.
Bhadrachalam legislator Sunnam Rajaiah, TRICORR chairman Tati Venkateswarlu, MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana and others were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Ministers Dr C Laxma Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao participated in the third phase of Haritha Haram in various places.
As part of the plantation drive, the Ministers planted saplings on the premises of Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) in Bhadrachalam.
