Midgil: Recent rains have been taking a heavy toll on the sheep that were distributed under Sheep Rearing Scheme. While some sheep are falling prey to diseases due to inclement weather, others are unable to feed and on the verge of perishing.

In Bairampalli village of the Midgil mandal of Mahbubnagar district, the government had distributed 42 sheep units to beneficiaries of the targeted 84. The village reported deaths of at least 20 sheep belonging to various units, while others falling sick. In Kanchanapalli village, 20 sheep units have been distributed of the targeted 40.

The village also reported deaths of some sheep. So far, at least 40 sheep perished in the two villages. The beneficiaries, who switched over to sheep-rearing from agriculture, are encountering many problems due to sudden death of sheep.

Beneficiaries from the two villages, Sugunamma, Kadaiah and Rafiq, alleged that the sick sheep, procured from Raichur in Karnataka, were given to them by veterinary doctors. By the time, the weak sheep reached them, they were perishing.

Therefore, they demanded the State government for payment of compensation for the loss incurred due to deaths of sheep.
