In the wake of the ongoing political turmoil and the recent twin blasts at Dilsuknagar. The 67th Independence Day on Thursday will be held under tight security.

According to North Zone DCP R Jaya Lakshmi, heavy security arrangements have been made in and around Parade Grounds . Surrounding areas of the venue were brought under a tight security cordon. All hotels, lodges have been scanned thoroughly. The city police conducted anti-sabotage and vehicular checks in view of the celebrations. Traffic restrictions have also been imposed.


The DCP said that a total of 500 constables, 7 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and 25 Inspectors have been deployed in and around Parade Grounds. Constant patrolling is being carried out within the vicinity of the venue and its surrounds. Following terror alert sent from Intelligence Bureau, special teams, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams and Taskforce teams have been deployed check posts have been set up at all major points, sensitive areas and also at all the roads leading to Parade Grounds. The police are taking up frisking and vehicle checks.


Earlier, Hyderabad Police Commissioner advised the general public not to carry any hand bags, briefcases, cameras, tiffin boxes or other containers while proceeding to Parade Grounds. “Any person found carrying such items will be subjected to frisking and checking by the police on 15 August,” stated in a press statement.


“We strictly instructed the lodge and hotel owners and management to keep a strict vigil on strangers and maintain registers of visitors checking in and out,” said the East Zone DCP Shahnawaz Qasim. He said that more than 1,000 security personnel were deployed as a part of security measures.


Meanwhile, Cyberabad Police beefed up security in view of the Independence Day celebrations. “Apart from usual steps, three companies of BSF were deployed,” said Cyberabad Commissioner C V Anand. Shopping malls, lodges, hotels, have been inspected following a terror alert, he added.
