Hyderabad can boast of a new feather in its cap. Satya Nadella, a techie from the city, who is currently the executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group will soon be running for the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the software giant. The news broke out after Microsoft’s current CEO Steve Ballmer announced his retirement in the next twelve months.

Ever since Steve Ballmer has made the announcement of his retirement, Microsoft Corp has set aside a dedicated committee to assign its next successor. Sources say that Satya is in a viable position to succeed Steve Ballmer and take over the reins from him. He is responsible for the Cloud OS which is Microsoft’s backend next generation platform for mobile and online computing. Before he ventured into the world of cloud computing, he was the president of Microsoft’s Server and Tools division.

Earlier, he had occupied roles such as, senior vice president of the Research and Development of Online Services Division and vice president of Microsoft Business Division. Satya is an alumnus of Hyderabad Public School and further went on to get his electrical engineering degree from MIT ( Manipal Institute of Technology). He later got his Masters in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin and a MBA degree from the University of Chicago. Till date the software giant has had only two CEO’s namely Ballmer and Bill Gates. It will be a privilege and an honour for Indians, especially Hyderabadis, if Satya takes over as the next CEO. Youngsters from the city share their thoughts this development

Preeth S Kumar: More than seeing an Indian (Satya Nadella) at the helm of Microsoft, what I, or any tech enthusiast & windows user, would want is a successor who is nothing like Steve Ballmer! From being the man who once strongly ridiculed the iPhone & iPad on international tech forums, to being the face of a tech giant, which is failing with its own smart phones, tablets and every other product, Ballmer has reduced Microsoft to a shell of its former self. One can only hope that Bill Gates hires someone as charismatic and pioneering as Marissa Mayer, who seems to be turning Yahoo’s fortunes around. Microsoft would do a lot better, with the right man, who could steer it away from decades of mediocrity and finally give millions of PC users something to celebrate about. Until then let’s just hope Apple & Google don’t go anywhere!”
Jitendra Mishra : It is a proud moment for all the people from Hyderabad to know that Satya Nadella is one of the candidates gunning for the position of Microsoft's third CEO. He is well qualified for the position and has proved his capabilities through his long service to the organisation. Microsoft employs approximately 34% Indians. Hence it should not be a surprise if an Indian is appointed as its CEO.
Abhijit Prasad: I think it’s good that Indians are dialing up their mettle. First Jaguar and now Microsoft. A greater attention however is needed back home. Dalal Street hit a new low today. There is constant political strife. When Indians do well abroad, one wonders if it is better to immigrate.
