The State Government proudly launched its flagship e-governance initiative ‘Mee Seva’ in July 2011. It was intended to allow a common man to avail most of the government schemes and service through an authorised outlet- ‘Mee Seva Centre’ in a seamless, transparent and hassle-free environment. However, the ground realities speak otherwise. Most of the facilities at the Mee Seva centers in the state capital have not been updated so far. Even though the Aadhar cards were launched in 2009, the Mee Seva centres are yet to accept the card as proof of identity of an individual.

“I had to renewal my vehicle’s registration and was asked to get it done at Mee Seva by a traffic official. But, to my surprise they did not accept my Aadhar card as proof of address,” said Lata who then had to submit her passport for verifying her address.

Recently, government announced that over 100 services are being provided through 6000 Mee Seva centers across the state. Exhibiting the supposed success of its initiative, the government even installed an electronic display board right at the entrance of the Secretariat. By mid January, it displayed that over one crore transactions were successfully completed. But, at the ground level there are many flaws in the Mee Seva services and the citizens are harried, which seems to remain oblivious to the government.

Though Mee Seva centers claim to provide many governments services including revenue, municipal, transport, police etc., it is a herculean task for a common man to get his work done. Most of the Mee Seva centers in the twin cities are understaffed and so are unable to render most of the 100 services. Sometimes the staff, request the customers to return after a few hours but when the customer turns up at the mentioned time, they are made to wait fruitlessly.

When Rajeshwar Singh, a private employee, went to the Mee Seva center at RTA Office, Khairatabad to complete his caste certification, he was asked to return after the lunch hour. “When I went at 3 pm, I was given a token number. I was waiting for my turn, but it never came for over an hour. Eventually they said that the software wasn’t working properly. Hence, I had to go to another centre. But even there, the case was similar,” he said.

When Hyderabad Hans enquired a Mee Seva authority over these problems, he admitted, “Our Mee Seva software has not been updated. Hence people are facing such problems.”
