Final draft of the Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS) for Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA)-2041 was approved by the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) for notification on Monday. The final draft was discussed at the ninth UMTA meeting held at secretariat with Chief Secretary PK Mohanty in the chair. The implementation of the CTS would be in three phases (2021, 2031 and 2041). Lea Associates has prepared the estimates of the works to be done in each phase.

At this meeting, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) initiated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA) with a layout of Rs 160 crore. The project would be funded by JICA. It is estimated that ITS would be operational by 2015 within the GHMC limits and by 2020 under HMA limits.

Transit-oriented Development (TOD) initiatives such as Metro, MMTS, BRT Sub-urban Rail, Intercity Commuter System etc, would be developed with a layout of Rs 3,390 crore, for improving urban mobility. HMDA and GHMC would be coming up with the new parking policy. Dedicated paths for pedestrians, multi-level parking and special pathways for physically challenged would be an integral part of the plan.

Thirteen Urban Nodes and 46 Urban Centres (UN&UC), 27 Transit Oriented Growth Centers (TOGC), 13 Transit Oriented Development (TOD) would be developed by 2041. The meeting was attended by senior officials from MAUD, R&B and finance departments, GHMC, HMWS&SB, HMR, APPCB, APSRTC, APIIC, Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates, SCR in addition to CTS Consultants Lea Associates.
