Cultural extravaganza at Youth Festival

State Youth Festival, jointly organised by the Department of the Youth Affairs and Government of Andhra Pradesh, was off to a colourful start on Saturday. The festival was inaugurated by Vatti Vasanth Kumar, Minister of Youth Affairs. Day two of the festival saw spirited participation from the youngsters and amazing performances in various competitions. This colourful fest is all set to end on a high note today and the winners will be given the opportunity to participate in the National Youth Festival at Ludhiana.

Shilparamam and State Art Gallery are abuzz with activities in the past two days, as they are hosting the State Youth Festival, which is all set to end on a grand note today. Day two of the event saw a multitude of competitions and cultural programmes. With over 1,200 participants from all over the state, both the venues are brimming with excitement and energy.

Day two at the Shilparamam opened with the One Act Play competition. Though most of the participants were not professionals, their performances were nothing short of amazing. The concept was a mix of both old and contemporary making the audience go spellbound. This was followed by the fancy dress event.

Scintillating Kuchipudi performances were the highlight of the day. All the performances were equally good and judges would have a tough time picking the winners. Elocution competitions that followed the event were extempore and audience got to hear a few good speeches.

Towards end of the day, it was all songs and dance. Classical vocal solo, classical instrument non-percussion, folk songs and dances showcased by the participants were amazing. As the participants came from various districts, they showcased traditional folk dance forms of their districts.

The events at the State Art Gallery gave food for thought. Quiz, essay writing and on-the-spot painting competitions were held at the venue. The quiz competition saw some sharp quizzing by the participants.

Speaking to Hyderabad Hans, director of the Youth Affairs, KRHN Chakravarthy, said, “1,200 participants from all over the state are taking part in this three-day festival. The last day of the festival will see participation in classical dance competition. In this edition of the festival, we have included events like martial art and fancy dress; these are not in the competition category, they are for the audience to enjoy.”

Chief Secretary PK Mohanty will be the chief guest at the valedictory function today. The winners of various competitions will take part in the National Youth Festival which would be held from January 12 to 16, 2014, at Ludhiana.
