Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) HS Brahma lauded the services of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for feeding the poor for Rs 5. He visited the meals centre at Nampally Sarai along with Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar on Sunday.
“GHMC is one of the few corporations that is serving proper meals at such a low price. This is a noble initiative and should be adopted by all the municipalities in the country,” Brahma said.
Somesh Kumar informed that the scheme is being operated in 21 centres and the corporation will open more centres in the near future. He stated that about 7,000 people are benefitting from the service. “The call for sponsors for the programme has received a good response. A new centre will be opened in the name of the sponsors who contribute for the one day cost of the centre,” informed Somesh Kumar.
