The Gudimalkapur market in the city is one place where garbage and biodegradable waste is left to rot. The SuWASTE (Sustainable Waste), an arm of Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) has put up a proposal to undertake Solid Waste Management (SWM) at the market. Chakradhar of SuWASTE said, “There is a vegetable, flowers and fish market at Gudimalkapur market and the amount of biodegradable waste generated is enormous but the corporation is not bothered to lift the waste.”

SuWASTE is in talks with GHMC to undertake SWM on a pilot basis. Lubna Sarwath says, “We have done field survey and there is so much scope to treat the waste at the market itself as there is a lot of land that could be used to treat the waste. It is a win-win for the civic body as it could save on transportation cost and the problem of waste being dumped on the road could be solved.”
