Sangeetha Ksheerasagaram, a music organisation run by Voruganti Anandamohan arranges monthly concerts in Kala Subbaarao Kalavedika jointly with Tyagaraya Gana Sabha. As part of the monthly concerts conducted in memory of Uppalapati Ankaiah (guru of Ananda Mohan), Ksheerasagaram held a concert recently.
This time, the young talents “Sangeetha Sisters” of the twin cities performed. Both were trained by the “Hyderabad Brothers” (the leading duo in Carnatic circles), whose meticulous training put them with the recognised figures in music circles.
In their recent performance in TG Sabha Mini Hall, Telangana’s “Sangeetha Sisters” (Sangeethakala and Rajyalakshmi) gave a shining vocal recital beyond the expectations of music lovers. They showed much promise. In the given circumstances, if they devote much time and practice in the days to come, it is certain that the duo can be the top duo singers of our state.
Their concert started with Abhogi raga varnam “Evari Bodhana” of Patnam Subramanya Ayyer. The sisters moved onto two other popular numbers of Patnam’s, “Samayamidey” (Kedara) and “Mariverey Dikkevaru” (Lathangi), which they rendered decoratively.
Then they shifted to trinity works “Vidajaaladuraa Naa Manasu” (Janaranjani), “Ninne Namminanu Sadaa” (Thodi) of Thyagaraja and Syama Sastri respectively, which pleased the audience. A speedy number of Bhadrachala Ramadasu “Rama Seetharaama” (Janjhooti) made the listeners to experience the Bhakthi Ambit. The artistes took the Ragam Tanam Pallavi (generally a difficult item to render) in Chakravaka ragam and with pallavi “Padalaya Vinyasamey Pallavi Ney Paadeda Sarigama”, touching all the nuances of Ragam Thanam and Pallavi with proven ability.
They also dealt with Ragamalika swaras Hamsadhwani, Kedaragoula, Amrithavarshini and Hindolam meritoriously moving from one swara to another with ease. The end pieces “Vithala Vithaley” (Madhyamavathi) an Abhang, Meera Bhajan (Keelu Ragam), “Sankari Srigiri” (Hamsadhwani) of Swathi Thirunal and again, with another work of Patnam’s Thillana in Khamas Ragam,
Sangeetha Sisters gave in ample measure, the semi-classical taste in abundance. Veteran violin musician NCh Anathakrishna and young promise on the mridangam Veena Dhari (youngest sister of duo Sangeetha Sisters and wife of noted mridanga Vidwan Karra Srinivas) does close follow-up for the vocal recital and made the programme a grand success.
