The unconcern of Corporators in the Malakpet Constituency in addressing and solving the public issues has always been a major problem to the locals. The residents were aggrieved over poor services of the ex-Corporators during their course time. Unapproachable ex-Corporators are the main reason for slow development in the seven divisions the Constituency.

Majority of the representations filed with the local Corporators are on sewage and drinking water, construction of community hall, gym and public toilets, better facilities in the hospitals and government schools, theft of electricity in slum areas, encroachments on Musi Riverbed and unemployment issue among the youths in the division.

Old pipelines
The age old water pipelines have always been a threat to the health of public in the division. A government teacher, who is a resident of Sripuram colony of Moosrambagh, Praveen Kumar said, “The frequent leakage has become a big challenge for the locals here.”

He added that the there are irregularities in placing of garbage bins in the divisions. “Whenever the leakage happens it flows towards the bins, which is creating water-borne related issues,” he informed.
When contacted, the ex-Corporators refused to speak saying that they are no longer having concern on the issue.

No Community Hall despite funds
Complying with requests of the locals of Sanjiviah Nagar in Moosrambagh Division, the foundation stone for the construction of the community hall was laid in November 2014 but, work has not been started till date.

The locals informed that an Anganwadi centre was promised to be transformed into Community hall for the welfare of colony but, the work did not begin and the Corporators escaped from their work after their course.

Currently, the colony members are utilising the community hall of neighbouring areas. A similar situation has also been observed in the case for Saleem Nagar community hall cum gym that is situated near the boundary of Malakpet Race Course.

A resident of Saleem Nagar, Rukmangadhar said, “Whenever the residents approached the Corporator for any kind of grievances, he asks to submit a request letter which he never addressed.”When contacted, the Saleem Nagar and Moosrambagh ex-Corporators refused to speak on the topic.

Encroachments on Musi Riverbed

The locals in Moosarambagh, Malakpet and Azampura filed representations to take action on the violation of encroachment of the Musi River to the Corporators but, many of the cases were not even addressed.

An advocate and resident of Malakpet, Eshwar Prasad said, “Despite several legal measures taken by the police and revenue authorities, the encroachment issue are still on rise.”He informed that the slum dwellers, with the help of Corporators and government officials, are still practising such illegal things.

The Corporator of Malkpet and Moosrambagh refused to speak on the topic. However, the Corporator of Azampura, Amzad Ullah Khan said, “I have worked and developed my division but, could not stop this encroachment activity.”

The unemployment issue
According to local civic workers, the number of youths in the constituency is high compared to the any other GHMC constituency. Civic worker, Amzad, a resident of Akber Bagh said that they are numerous unemployed youth in their division.

“Though the GHMC has conducted several employment and training activities, the Corporators in their division have failed to implement these properly. Due to lack of technical and infrastructural facility, the GHMC employment service schemes are not beneficial.”

The locals informed that the GHMC financial aid to the Corporators for setting up the training centre and enforcing of the employment service shames have not been used for the purpose. However, ex-Corporator of Chavni and Azampura said that they have done well enough work in implementing the schemes.

In fact, they mutually said that many of the courses have helped the youth in getting jobs in their division. The locals have filed several other grievances, which pertain to traffic congestion, poor condition of the roads, non availability of streetlights, encroachment of graveyard and parks.

According to locals, many of the cases are pending with the Corporators, which they have not attended and have escaped citing various “reasons”.
